Stop Bug Bite Itching Naturally!

Did you know a mosquito can detect a moving target over 18 feet away? Did you know that mosquitoes are not active on windy or cool days and that the itching we feel is our body’s reaction to the anticoagulant injected when she bites?

This
past weekend we spent some time deep in the woods at the family camp near the Miramichi where nature is beautiful and unspoiled but the bugs were horrendous. We all came home with many many itchy mosquito bites. They actually bit through our clothes! So what are some natural ways to take the itch out of a bug bite?

Favorite Natural Itch Removing Tips:
  • Mix baking soda and water into a paste and spread over the bite.
  • Rub apple cider vinegar directly on the bite with a cotton ball. If you don't want to hold it, tape it in place. Should work by the time it is dry.
  • Use tea tree oil. You can buy this at the Bulk Barn, pharmacy or natural food stores. This oil is known as a cure-all for many problems and it also alleviates the itching from mosquito bites. Tea tree oil helps prevent infection as well. By the time the oil is dry you will feel it working.
  • Rub the bite gently with the pulp of a lemon or lime.
  • Apply honey to the bite area.
  • Spread aloe vera over the inflammed bite to reduce swelling. It will also reduce itching.
  • Reduce inflammation with a dab of peppermint toothpaste. Some people swear by Listerine mouth wash.
  • With many bug bites a bath in Epsom Salts is the best bet for relief.
One of the above remedies should bring you relief! So don't bother buying any anti-itch sprays or sticks when you already have plenty of great options in your cupboard already.

Cost Savings: $20 per year saved on after bug bite sprays.

I also find that rubbing a wet bar of soap (Castile) on a new bite stops the itch fast! Great advice in this blog! Love it!
