Every now and then it is just nice to soak in the tub! Soaking is relaxing and stress relieving. It clears your mind and allows for a "time out" for yourself. It may use more water than a short shower, but every now and then it is a nice treat.
Instead of using commercially available bath products with heavy fragrance and synthetic chemicals it is very simple to further increase the health benefits and enjoyment of a bath with all natural bath teas. By adding green tea, herbs and essential oils you can reap medicinal benefits of detoxification, stop premature aging and enjoy a lovely fragrance without the chemicals and cost. These homemade bath tea bags are fun, easy and make great gifts! Many of the ingredients came out of my existing herb garden and the ingredients are also good for your hair and scalp as well. The essential oils can be found in many stores and T-Sac tea filters (size 4) were used to make the bags (link posted below).
Green Tea and Your Skin
- Studies have demonstrated that topical green tea formulations reduce sun damage. Green allows sun damage protection by ridding free radicals and reducing inflammation from your skin. It does not block UV rays, however, green tea synergistically enhances sun protection when used in addition to your sunscreen.
- Teas antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, topical green tea polyphenols are said to slow down the development of signs of skin aging and help skin disorders such as rosacea.
- Drinking green tea helps slow down the development of some signs of aging as well. It improves your skin and makes it look hydrated, younger and healthier. All you have to do is drink 3 cups of green tea daily. So just make a pot and enjoy! If you can find organic tea that is even better for you and the environment.
- Lavender, Mint and Rose reduces anxiety and emotional stress.
- Lavender and Rosemary are great for blood circulation.
- Rosemary also banishes free radicals.
- Rosemary great for stiff muscles and arthritis.
Garden Bath Tea
2-3 tsp rose petals (dried)
2 green tea bags
2 stems rosemary (fresh or 1/4 tsp dried)
7-10 mint leaves (fresh or 1/4 tsp dried)
2-3 drops lavender essential oil
1 t-sac tea bag or cheese cloth (see below to make your own tea bag)
Place all ingredients into a tea bag or cheese cloth and tie with a string. Place bath tea bag under faucet as water fills the tub. Gently squeeze the tea bag to release the herbal elements. Feel free ot let it sit in the tub as long as you like to steep. Now just relax and enjoy. Makes one tea bag. Don't have the rose petals and herbs? Just put 2 drops of essential oil on each green tea bag and put it in the tub!
* To create your own tea bag, simply cut a square of cheesecloth and lay the herbs on top of it. Gather the cloth together and tie with string. If you want to make a permanent bag that is a bit fancier (similar to the pink one I have in the picture), you can sew a casing and thread a ribbon or string through it to tie the bag with.
